Monroe Honor Guard
A Little Bit About Us
A Little Bit About Us
The mission of the Monroe Fire Department Honor Guard is to serve as representatives of the Fire Department at formal occasions as directed by the Fire Chief and Honor Guard Commander. The Honor Guard projects a positive image of the Department and its members by performing as a well trained professional team at local events. The Honor Guard is dedicated to honoring our Fire Service family, past and present, in triumph and tragedy, in remembrance and in celebration, with honor, respect and compassion.
After serving as part of a Funeral Honor Guard in July 2011 for Monroe Firefighter and IAFF Local 3824 President Kenny Ellis, the department began looking into forming a formal Honor Guard. With support from Fire Administration and local donations the Honor Guard was formed in late 2012. Currently, the Honor Guard has (11) eleven firefighters voluntarily involved and will be able to perform in many capacities for the City of Monroe.
Current Members include: Lt. Scott Clasgens, Capt. Matt Grubbs, Assistant Chief David Leverage, Firefighter Joel Coomer, Firefighter Paul Peters, Firefighter Dave Hayes, Firefighter Zach Bernard, Firefighter Chelsea Hill, Firefighter Joshua Crone, Firefighter Joe Carey and Firefighter Aaron Forrer.
Our team has had the honor of participating in such events as; City of Monroe 9-11 Tribute, Mt. Pleasant Veterans Day Celebration, Posting of Colors at City of Monroe functions and Celebration of Life for our Fallen Brothers.
The Honor Guard will respond to request from both current and retired Fire Department members in any way possible. Our goal is to represent all members of the Fire Service family in the highest degree of professionalism. In addition to funerals and memorial services, the honor guard may be called upon to post colors for various civic events, march in parades, assist families during a time of need, and stand guard at funeral homes.
The Monroe Fire Department Honor Guard is funded primarily through the City of Monroe Fire Department. Private donations have also contributed greatly and have been used to purchase equipment and uniform necessities. All honor guard members volunteer their time to attend all functions and trainings.
